Teenager Cited With Dui, Arrested After Crash in Northern Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO -- The Colorado Springs Police Department arrested a teenager for driving under the influence following a serious two-car collision on Sunday morning.

The crash occurred around 2:00 AM near the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Rebecca Lane.

The Chevrolet Silverado - driven by intoxicated teenager Jose Sanchez-Agundes - collided with a Nissan.

One of the occupants of the Nissan was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The Nissan’s other occupants were trapped inside, requiring firefighters’ assistance to extricate themselves from the car.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the ejected individual lying in the street. The individual sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital. The other Nissan passengers sustained various injuries and required hospital treatment as well.

The Silverado’s 18-year-old driver remained at the scene, and the CSPD determined he was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. Authorities cited DUI and vehicular assault when arresting Sanchez-Agundes.

The CSPD’s Major Crash Team is investigating the accident. Although road conditions were bad from an incoming snowstorm, they have not determined if snow or ice were factors in the crash. Additionally, it has yet to be determined which direction both vehicles were traveling at the time of the collision.

No update has been provided as to the condition of the injured individuals.
