7-Vehicle Crash Involving Semi-Truck Injures 8 in Castle Rock
Castle Rock, CO -- A crash involving seven vehicles including an 18-wheeler left eight people injured on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred on I-25 South off-ramp towards Founders Parkway at around 2:00 p.m.
Colorado State Patrol says that a semi-truck with a fully-loaded trailer was taking the off-ramp and failed to stop at the intersection. The truck collided with four vehicles stopped at a red light and continued through the intersection where it hit two additional vehicles; a Jaguar coupe and an Infiniti sedan.
The semi, Jaguar, and Infiniti fell down a 25-foot embankment and came to rest in a commercial parking lot where they hit the side of a liquor store.
Four drivers sustained serious injuries in the crash, including the Jaguar’s driver Anthony Hagger, 77; the semi-truck’s driver James Gabriel, 53; and Michele Zibrick, 66, the driver of a vehicle on the off-ramp. 49-year-old William Evans, the driver of the Infiniti, had to be extricated from his vehicle and was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
In total, eight occupants in seven vehicles were transported to the hospital. Colorado State Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash. The intersection was closed for about five hours to accommodate rescue, investigation, and towing operations.
