Lawsuits Over Trans-Vaginal Mesh

According to a cbsnews.com report, thousands of women are grouping together to join a class action lawsuit against the makers of trans-vaginal mesh. The women are claiming that the mesh is creating health issues and pain. In two cases already the juries have awarded the women with millions of dollars in settlements. From 2008 to 2011, the FDA had 2,874 complaints about trans-vaginal mesh. The FDA issued two warnings about the medical mesh, one in 2008 and one in 2011. Some complaints stated the the mesh would tear tissue, cause bleeding and in a few cases, breaking down in the body and causing infections resulting in death.

According to Wikipedia, trans-vaginal mesh is used to treat a symptom called stress urinary incontinence, which is caused by a weak pelvic floor muscle. When trans-vaginal mesh first appeared for procedures, it was considered a useful medical device that would help millions of women but more recently it has shown that it actually hurts more women then it helps.
