Investigation Underway at UCHealth Anschutz for Equipment Sterilization Concerns

On August 6, 2025, it was reported that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is actively investigating a complaint regarding the sterilization of surgical equipment at UCHealth’s Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

According to CDPHE and multiple news outlets, the hospital has reduced surgical capacity and postponed elective procedures while working to resolve the issue. The hospital reports that additional staff have been brought in to help restore sterile processing operations.

What This Means for Patients

While no public health notice has been issued, patients who recently underwent surgery at UCHealth Anschutz may have questions or concerns—especially if they’ve experienced symptoms such as fever, redness, swelling, or other signs of infection.

It’s important to know that even in highly regarded medical centers, preventable mistakes can occur. When they do, patients deserve answers—and in some cases, legal support.

How We’re Helping

David S. Woodruff and the team at Denver Trial Lawyers® are currently investigating cases related to this incident. David was lead counsel in the Porter Adventist Hospital infection litigation, which also arose out of a similar problem with the sterile processing of surgical instruments.

That experience has given our team deep insight into the technical, legal, and medical issues involved in this type of case.

If you or a loved one was affected, we’re here to listen. Our goal is to provide clear guidance and careful legal support. All case evaluations are free and confidential.
