Man Dies After Crashing Vehicle Into Mountainside

El Paso County, CO -- A one-vehicle crash on Sunday left an 81-year-old man dead.

Authorities identified the deceased as James Frantz, who was driving his 2009 Mercedes Benz west on Highway 24 near Manitou Springs. Police believe that Frantz missed his left turn and then went off the right side of the road as he tried to correct the mistake.

The Mercedes became airborne and crashed into the mountainside. The vehicle then rolled over multiple times. Frantz was partially ejected from the car and died at the scene.

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating this crash. They believe speed could have been a factor. Authorities ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call the CSP at 719-544-2424.
