Denver, CO -- Police report that six people were killed in six separate accidents within 12 hours this past weekend. Col. Matthew Packard, chief of the Colorado State Patrol, posted on Twitter, “Safety on our roadways is everybody’s responsibility. We must be better!”
Around 9:20 pm Saturday in Delta County, a single-vehicle rollover left one person dead. Paramedics transported three other passengers in the car to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police believe that passengers not wearing seatbelts is a factor in the crash.
Around 10:20 pm Saturday northeast of Fort Lupton, a driver was ejected from their car when it rolled over. The driver died at the scene. Police report that speed was a likely cause of the crash.
Around 1:20 am Sunday, reports of another rollover crash northeast of Greeley. The driver hit a speed limit sign, went off the road, and rolled over. Police suspect that alcohol and speed played a factor in the crash.
About 2:20 am Sunday near Erie, a driver struck and killed a pedestrian standing on the shoulder of the road. CSP reports that the driver stopped and cooperated with police.
Around 7:30 am Sunday south of Cortez in southwest Colorado, a head-on collision killed one and injured two others. CSP reported that a Subaru drove northbound on Highway 160 when it crossed the center lane and crashed into a semi-truck. The driver of the Subaru died at the scene. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Around 9:30 am Sunday in Larimer County, a two-vehicle crash killed one person and left others seriously injured. A vehicle swerved into the westbound lane and struck a handicap accessible van. A man in a wheelchair inside died in the crash. Alcohol likely played a role in the accident.
