Suspected Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian in Hit-And-Run in Aurora

A suspected drunk driver took the life of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crush early Monday morning. The crash was just after midnight near East Colfax and Kenton Street.

A person passing by said a man was unresponsive on the ground near a light pole. Investigators believe the man was in the crosswalk on Colfax when he was hit by a driver going eastbound.

The crash threw the man about 30 yards southeast of the intersection. Surveillance video in the area shows the man unresponsive and he was not found for about 20 minutes after the crash.

Aurora Fire Department took the victim to University Hospital. Officials later pronounced him dead.

Aurora police said the driver left the scene but returned about 30 minutes later after talking to his family. Officials believe alcohol and speeding are factors in the crash. The name of the victim and the driver are still unknown.

The driver is facing charges of a hit-and-run resulting in death. He may also face additional charges once the toxicology report is complete. IF anyone has information about this incident please do not hesitate to call police at 303-739-6342.
