Suspected DUI Driver Booked Following Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Involving A House In Denver
Denver, CO (May 21,2019) — A suspected drunk driver who crashed into a Denver home after causing a fatal car accident Friday is out of the hospital and in the Denver City Jail.
Anatolio Garcia, 38, was booked on investigation of driving under the influence and is facing vehicular homicide charges, according to Denver police.
He was hospitalized for injuries he sustained in the Friday afternoon crash.
Garcia, who was driving a minivan, was drunk when he ran a stop sign, collided with a sports coupe and then crashed into a home in the 800 block of South Patton Court at about 2:45 p.m. Friday.
The community is mourning the loss of 25- year old Francisco Morales, the driver of the coupe, who was killed in the accident. Morales was on his way home after picking his 5-year-old son up from school.
Witnesses say the boy was clinging to his father and crying when police arrived. Paramedics transported the child to the hospital as a precaution.
Police said people were inside the house at the time of the crash, but no one inside was injured.
According to records, Garcia has been convicted of two alcohol-related offenses in the past, including a 2003 DUI.
About 200 people gathered in Denver’s Westwood neighborhood this past weekend to remember Morales.
“We feel him here. I’m so thankful,” said friend Morales Chavira. “He was a good person and we feel the love. He was the best father and we will remember him like this.”
