Cyclist Seriously Injured in Collision with Truck at Highway 85 Intersection
Commerce City, CO - A cyclist in Commerce City was seriously injured after an accident with a truck early Tuesday, August 20th.
The accident shut down parts of Highway 85 for several hours as authorities worked on the scene.
According to police, the initial investigation revealed that the truck was traveling southbound on Highway 85 when it struck the cyclist who was traveling east on East 69th Avenue through the intersection of the two roadways.
The cyclist, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
This accident is just one in a long stream of accidents involving cyclists across the Metro area in recent weeks. At least three cyclists have been killed in accidents with vehicles since last month. In one instance, the driver was cited with careless driving resulting in a death, which is a misdemeanor, and released.
In response to the rash of accidents, hundreds of cyclists rode through Denver earlier this month to call for change.
